Overworked, stressed and unhappy?

I’ve been there.

I was stressed and overwhelmed on a regular basis for a lot of my working life before I accepted that I needed to make some changes.

I consistently overworked, personally and professionally. I had a to do list for everything! Overworking was my go-to habit as I thought it would reduce my overwhelm. But the more I worked, the more stressed and overwhelmed I became and, the less productive and focused I was, so I worked even more to try and achieve the feeling of achievement and calm that I craved. It was a vicious circle.

Put yourself at the top of your to-do list.

During the most stressful time, I thought the overwhelm was just a normal part of being a working parent. I was consistently overworking but I didn’t realise it — I still loved my job and wanted to continue to make a difference. But if I’m honest with myself, I did know that deep down I was unhappy. I felt guilty a lot. Guilty about my family when I was at work; and guilty about work when I was with my family. The reality is I had no time or head space to think or be present or to enjoy either. I knew if something didn’t change I would one day regret the way I had chosen to live my life.

I had to make a change.

I had some great coaching which helped me to reflect on what I wanted and to have the courage to make a change. However, if I’m totally honest, it wasn’t until I trained as a coach that I really began to really learn why I regularly found myself overworked, stressed and overwhelmed. The training process helped me to discover what was at the heart of my people-pleasing and perfectionism. It was through developing my self-awareness and uncovering the behaviours and habits that needed replacing I was able to make positive changes that have transformed the way I think and act everyday.

I’m still passionate about working with people. I am still passionate about helping businesses to grow and succeed. But now my mission looks a bit different to when I was in the corporate world! These days, I juggle running a small business with the demands of caring for a young family. All whilst ensuring I have time left to take care of and to enjoy myself — even in the midst of a pandemic.

The drive behind my business? Helping others like me to create the time and head space in their life so that they can become more present, productive and calm: enjoying their lives to the full.

Make a Change

If this sounds like you, let’s talk.

How BeCoaching Helps

For Companies

Do you have an unspoken culture of overworking in your business that you want to change? Do you see your people continually going above and beyond yet still not getting to the important stuff? Have you tried time-management courses for your teams, teaching helpful prioritisation skills, yet still not bringing about the results you’re hoping for?

Through group training and 121 coaching, we can work together to empower your people to transform unhelpful beliefs, behaviours and habits, which will not only increase their effectiveness, engagement and wellbeing but also the productivity and performance of your business.

For Individuals

Running your own business is challenging enough, without the additional pressures of running your home. It’s easy to see why so many professionals get overwhelmed. Yet when we get to this state, it’s difficult to see a way out. So we work harder to try to fix things, leading to further stress and ultimately, burnout.

Becoaching helps you to break this cycle, taking the time to stop and reflect in a safe environment, helping you to uncover the habits that lead to overwhelm and to put in place strategies to transform negative thought patterns and behaviours into positive, efficient working practices that benefit you in all areas of your life.

What Clients are Saying

Mark (Communications Consultant):

When I started to have regular coaching sessions with Emma, the brief was simple: I wanted to work more effectively & efficiently and to leave my desk earlier, so that life could be more varied and less rushed. This felt like a fairly workaday brief, although quite a challenging one. After all, my working habits had been established over many years!

Working with Emma has been brilliant. We’ve been able to look at these habits as well as the emotional landscape that underpins them. We’ve looked at what’s working, what isn’t — and why.

A year on, the way that I look at work has changed for the better. The way I approach each working day has changed. More than that, I feel like I understand myself a little better, in ways that have helped me to deal with events and challenges that lie far outside the world of work. I would recommend Emma to anyone who has habits that they’d like to break. It can be done!

Meg (Product & Operations Manager):

Emma Pennycard strikes the perfect balance when it comes to coaching — professional but personable. The work I have done with Emma has been invaluable and has allowed me to develop both personally and in my role as a leader for the team I manage.

Emma’s knack of ‘keeping it real’ enables clarity of how to put the learnings from our coaching sessions into meaningful practice both in my work & personal life.

Rebecca (Business Engagement & Tourism Manager):

Emma helped me realise what is important to me, and how I might shape my life to reflect my values. I have found this immensely helpful as I think through decisions. Her supportive, yet questioning style helped me realise many things about myself and reasons for my thoughts which had been holding me back.

Emma has encouraged me to be true to myself, and focus on my strengths. This has given me the confidence to take the next professional step and I can already see this is having benefits in my work and home life.

Is Coaching For Me?

Why consider coaching?

When we are constantly busy we can get stressed and overwhelmed. When we are in this place it triggers our unhelpful and unhealthy beliefs, behaviours and habits.

I help my clients to understand what is driving them to overwork, whether it be over-promising and over-committing. Perhaps it is over-perfecting and the need to be in control of everything, or the belief that they have to work ‘above and beyond’ to be worthy of their income.

Through my 1 to 1 transformational coaching I help my clients to:

  • Put a stop to the vicious cycle of overworking > overwhelm > stress > overworking
  • Identify and focus on what is most important personally and professionally then to have the confidence to let go of the rest
  • Discover the limiting beliefs that are holding them back and change them to beliefs that reflect their capabilities and successes
  • Understand what it is that drives them to overwork and how to recognise the triggers that lead to self-sabotaging habits, behaviours and then stress
  • Prioritise time away from work that actually increases overall productivity
  • Create habits and behaviors that replace the unhelpful ones, bringing them back to their most calm, present and productive selves
  • Achieve their business goals in less time, giving them back the freedom they crave to fully enjoy all parts of their life

What is coaching?

“Coaching is not about teaching someone to have a better life; its about creating the space for a conversation that enables someone to explore and embrace the choices that lead to that better life.” Animas Centre for Coaching

Coaching is a non-judgemental, conversation-based approach to moving someone from where they are to where they want to be. It focuses on solutions over problems. A coach is there to facilitate a client’s journey to understanding and action.

What is Transformational Coaching?

Transformational Coaching explores a person’s inner world of beliefs, assumptions, values and expectations in order to create great possibilities for ways of being in life. Where life coaching can help people to change the way they act, transformational coaching changes the way they see themselves. The change that transformational coaching brings about can be longer lasting and further reaching than with life or performance-driven coaching. This is because not only does it bring change in tangible results but also in the clients’ understanding of their own worldview and ultimately themselves.

About BeCoaching

Professional accredited transformational coaching provided by Emma Pennycard, for individuals and companies.

Through a 25-year career in the Travel Industry (including 10 years on the Executive Board of a medium-sized group of travel companies and 8 years as their People Director), my passion has always been working with people. And not just the part that shows up to work, but the whole person.

After this people-centric career in the corporate world, I took the opportunity to re-train as a coach in order to help others overcome the challenges I have faced both professionally and personally.

The result is Becoaching — a business that enables overworked professionals to achieve calm, presence and productivity.
